Native speakers needed: Acholi, Dholuo, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Luganda, Sango

Researchers at a major research University in the US are seeking fluent speakers of several languages spoken in Africa (Acholi, Dholuo, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Luganda, Sango) to act as short-term consultants for a language research project.

Languages of interest include:
Acholi
Dholuo
Kinyarwanda
Lingala
Luganda
Sango

As a research consultant, you will work with our linguists and technical staff to create annotated data sets for your language. The resources you help to develop will stimulate new research in natural language processing technology including machine translation for many new languages.

Primary Responsibilities

Searching the web for text in your language
Checking the quality of translations between English and your language
Working with research staff to document aspects of your language
Labeling texts for linguistic categories of interest
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

Native speaker of one of the language varieties listed above
Fluent in English
Detail oriented and organized
Reliable and self-directed
Comfortable working with computers in your language
Curious about language and willing to learn new skills
Access to a reliable computer with a high speed internet connection
Able to work a minimum of 10 hours/week for at least 6 weeks
